My name is April Freeman I'm the fiance of Christopher. We've spent the last 6 years together living in both Lake Orion MI and over the past year back and forth to Los Angeles.
Christopher's Mother is telling the press and anyone who will listen that he was a drug addict who died heart broken from his divorce in a cheap motel and should have never been in Los Angeles ... but there is much she's not saying.
Christopher was in Los Angeles rebuilding a skating school that he had lost to his ex-wife in his divorce. Christopher was long over his divorce that took place 5 years ago but really never got over not being able to be a regular fixture in their daughter's life.
Christopher was teaching several skaters who loved him. The youngest, an 8 year old who could barely skate nine months ago, who's ready for her first competition now, because of Christopher.
Christopher was also trying to revive his acting career landing a role as an Assistant Coach in the film "Down and Distance" with Gary Busey, Brian Bosworth, Master P and Lil Romeo. This film is now going to dedicated to Christopher.
Christopher and I had a small intimate commitment ceremony on Christmas day in 2005, we were now discussing official wedding dates and locations that would be good for all.
Christopher and I both traveled home to Detroit on December 18, 2007 to be with family over the holidays. After several attempts to contact his ex-wife to visit with his daughter for Christmas ... he was told "NO." and ... When his daughter was older in 5 to 6 years, she would have to make that decision on her own.
Christopher left Detroit heart broken because of his inability to see his daughter. Christopher didn't want to travel without me but needed to return to Los Angeles for work and due to my work schedule I was not able to meet up with him until January 11.
The motel where Christopher was staying when he died was a friend's motel in the neighborhood where he grew up and we often stayed there when we were in town. He was waiting in our room for my arrival on Friday January 11. The inside of this room was very nice and completely remodeled.
The man who was staying with Christopher was a homeless man, he met at the Van Nuys library. This man had no place to go so Christopher offered to share our room with him until I arrived to town on Friday morning.
Christopher offered to sleep on the floor the evening he died, giving up his bed to a man who would be sleeping on the streets after that night.
Christopher was working with homeless and befriended a pastor who provides meals to the homeless in Van Nuys. Christopher and I were working on starting a homeless foundation before he died.
Christopher suffered from several health issues in the years before he died and was taking medication for many of them. He was in AA (giving me his sober chips)and had been clean from drugs for at least 15 years with the exception of a minor slip several years ago.
If Christopher slipped up on the evening he died ... he was only human and he paid the ultimate price. It's not our job to judge him. At least he will not have to numb his pain any longer.
Let set this record straight ... Christopher was a man working through many demons and trying to regain self esteem he lost long ago. He was finding the success he was searching for and was in the process of accomplishing his goals. This was not a man who was wasting his life and to hear such stories stemming from family members who barely knew him as an adult sickens me!!! Christopoher was a Champion in everything he did in life and will continue to be a Champion on his new journey.
We should know the facts before we speak!!!
